Check Dam and its Benefits
What we do
Project Oasis help water desperate villages in rainwater harvesting by the means of check-dam
What is a check Dam
A check dam is a small dam-like structure that stores rainwater, slows water flow and reduces soil erosion.
Site Selection & Construction
Our experienced engineers and technicians design and construct robust check dams tailored to local conditions.
Aquifer
Our check dams revive aquifers by boosting groundwater infiltration, ensuring reliable water sources for communities.
Drinking Water
Check dams store water in reservoirs for various uses, including irrigation and municipal water supplies.
Crop Yield
Check dams improve crop yield by ensuring a consistent water supply, reducing stress and boosting productivity.
Completed Projects
Project Oasis has built 44 check dams as of July 2024.
Empowering Communities
Impact of Project OASIS
- Increase in Crop yields
Increase in crop yields means more food produced per acre due to improved farming techniques and technology. This boosts agricultural efficiency and food supply.
- Ground water Recharge
Groundwater recharge is the process by which water from rain or other sources infiltrates the ground to replenish aquifers. This natural replenishment is crucial for maintaining water supply in wells and springs.
- Increase in Irrigated land area
Increased irrigated land area enhances crop yields and agricultural productivity, supporting food security and economic growth. Reliable water supply ensures stable farming outputs.
- Drinking Water availability
Access to drinking water ensures safe, clean water for health and well-being. Reliable sources and infrastructure are vital for sustainable water availability.
- Migrant Labor Returns
Migrant labor involves workers moving to find employment, boosting economies. It addresses labor shortages and supports economic growth in both home and host countries.

Help bring back life to people at Boraie village, Rajasthan, India by supporting this project.
Water scarcity has taken a huge toll on villages. In absence of water people face hardships. Many women walk miles daily to fetch water for daily use. Many farmers struggle with farming. Families are forced to pick up alternative livelihoods in nearby cities. Villages are abandoned.

Boraie is such a village.
Project Oasis is focused on developing self-sustained water resources for water desperate villages in India. By identifying strategic locations with scientific research and local expertise, check dams are built for the villages to ensure year-round availability of water sourced by rainwater harvesting techniques.
Project Oasis is executed under the International Association for Human Values (IAHV). IAHV was created in Geneva in 1997 by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar as a global platform for humanitarian initiatives that solve problems by uplifting human values. IAHV is registered as a 501(c)(3) in the United States.
Reviving Boraie is part of Project Oasis. Boraie is evaluated as a high impact site, where by building a checked dam farmers can have access to water supply throughout the year. A checked dam harvests/preserves rainwater during monsoon, then let it flow away. This collected water goes underground replenishing all wells in the area. In good monsoon the dam will hold 4,03,571 cft = 1,13,00,000 crore litres of water.
Each village is unique. At Boraie the planned checked dam is named Aatamni Khalli . This campaign targets funding of $6000 for the purpose of this dam.
With checked dam built, following impact is expected at Boraie:
–145 families, totaling 1160 people will get access to water throughout the year.
–320 migrant/displaced workers will reverse migrate to the village to pick up farming again.
–529 Acres of new irrigable land will be generated.
–290 new employment opportunities will be generated.

Impact so far:
Project Oasis has already completed construction for 8 dams providing water to more than 12 villages. These check dams have transformed the lives of more than 10,000 villagers and farmers.

Future Plans:
In the year 2021, the project intends to build 20 more check dams. Boraie is one such dam that needs your help.
The project intends to build 1000 check dams by 2025 and bring a positive change in the lives of 2 Million villagers. We are entrepreneurs, software engineers, and scientists geographically located in the US, Canada, South Africa, and India.
